We will have a BUS to help us get folks from Swartz Bay to the Migration. The bus will also be a support vehicle until 4085 Quadra St, so if you get tired or need the bathroom - we have the support!
Route & Checkpoints
We are walking from Sidney to Victoria, starting at 8:00am - our final leg of the Migration! We will walk roughly 30km to the BC Parliament buildings.
See
here for a map of the route.
8:00am - 22km - The route will begin at the
Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre, 9811 Seaport Place, in Sidney. We will walk roughly 22 km. We will walk down 1st Ave to the the Lochside Trail, which we'll follow to avoid construction on highway #17. We will turn right down Mt Newton Crossroad left onto highway #17 into Victoria, and exit off Quadra St to 4085 Quadra St.
12:30pm - 7km - Lana Popham, NDP MLA for Saanich South, will be hosting a rest stop along the way at her constituency office, 4085 Quadra St (Quadra and Nicholson). From here, we will walk roughly 7km to Centennial Square, walking down Quadra until turning right on Bay St. We will walk down Bay, turning left on Douglas until we reach Centennial Square.
2:00-3:00pm - 1km - Meet up at Centennial Square (Douglas and Cormorant St) to join up with the Migration. Festivities start at 2:00pm in Centennial Square, including music, speakers and a wild salmon bbq. See here for
event details. We will arrive sometime between 2-2:30pm.
We will march the final km to the Legislature together at 3:30pm. It is a 1km walk for our final leg of the Migration. We will walk down Government St.
4:00pm -
Rally at the Legislature, including delivery of petitions and guest speakers. Bring signs! It would be great to see the names of all the towns being represented, along with animals that depend on the wild salmon.
Alexandra Morton, along with many other guests will speak at the rally. See
here for a full list of speakers and rally details.
This is your chance to let Ottawa see you care about wild salmon.
MP
Fin Donnelly, who is the West Coast Fisheries Critic and sits on the Fisheries Standing Committee in Ottawa, will receive us after our journey. Other elected officials will also be present (more information to follow). We will deliver our
petition, signatures on Alexandra's
letter to Fisheries Minister
Gail Shea, along with photographs of the Migrations planned in solidarity around the world and the Salmon Are Sacred Artwork we have collected from children and communities along the way.

Coming from Up-Island or the Mainland?
We are working on arranging bus transportation that can support walkers from into Victoria. See here for transportation details from various communities in BC.
If you can help us with this, please contact info@salmonaresacred.org.
Those migrating on the
ferry from Tsawwassen should plan to arrive in time to leave with us, or arrange transportation from later ferries to meet up with us further along. You can take the
bus from the ferry and meet us along the way at one of the
checkpoints (see above).
We don't know how many people it will take to get Ottawa to recognize that we want our wild salmon. It is time to stand up and be counted - Salmon Are Sacred! Salmon farms GET OUT of our coast!
